A person who is an adult can be described as a person or animal who has reached the full growth.The biological definition of the term refers to the animal has reached sexual maturity, and therefore capable of reproducing. Within the human realm, adults refer to social and legal concepts. In contrast to a non-adult or "minor" legally adult has reached the age of majority, and therefore is regarded as independent, self-sufficient, and dependable. Legal adults can also be called a major. The age at which a child becomes an adult legally is 18, however, the definition of"legal maturity" is different based upon the nation or legal system, as well as their psychological state.

At the point that a person reaches intellectual and physical maturity, this is called adulthood. The typical age for adulthood is the age of 21 or 20.
